Services include self-care, home management, community transportation, and accessibility throughout the home environment.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"\/childrens-services\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Children\u2019s Services<\/a>: We&#8217;re\u00a0dedicated to providing love, security, and support to the <em>whole child<\/em>. We facilitate countless opportunities to grow and learn, as we simultaneously nurture strong connections to family members, peers, and caregivers.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"\/also-arts\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ALSO Arts<\/a>: Since the beginning of ALSO in 1997, we&#8217;ve\u00a0been passionately dedicated to creating joyful intersections between art and life. Our inclusive community arts program is steadily growing throughout Oregon.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Our Continuous Work in Providing Accessible Housing<\/h3>\n<p>As the rest of the country grapples with inflation and soaring housing prices, individuals with disabilities are among those hardest hit. In Oregon and Southwest Washington, an estimated <a href=\"https:\/\/giveguide.org\/nonprofits\/advocates-for-life-skills-and-opportunities-also\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">24,000 adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities<\/a> are facing housing insecurity.<\/p>\n<p>ALSO advocates are fully committed to the goal of safe, affordable, and accessible housing. Although we continue to make great strides in this area, more work is on the horizon. Many new technologies and home layout strategies\u00a0are available to individuals with disabilities that make it possible to function\u00a0safely and independently in their own homes:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Widened hallways<\/li>\n<li>Accessible shelving, closets, and countertops<\/li>\n<li>Wheelchair ramps<\/li>\n<li>Technologies for communications, security, utilities<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The list is really endless! This is Portland\u2019s easiest path to end-of-year-giving.
